Overview

85°C Bakery & Café is known as a popular Taiwanese bakery and cafe selling a variety of coffee, tea, smoothies, bread, cakes, dessert and much more. Since 2004, they’ve opened 72 locations worldwide and is constantly busy with the demands of customers everyday. This case study features my redesign of a mobile app for a real bakery. Please note that this project is a personal exploration of UX design principles, guided by the Google UX Design certificate program, and the bakery mentioned is used for illustrative purposes only.

Problem

The absence of a customer loyalty rewards mobile app, that is intuitive, prevents customers from efficiently ordering ahead of time, accumulating rewards, and staying informed about the latest deals and promotions.

Goal

To create a customer loyalty rewards app that reinforces rewards and recognition of their customers.

User Pain Points

1

Filter for specific needs

There are no filters for ingredients to help users with allergens or specific tastes. We can address this by adding the option to filter ingredients in the menu.

2

Reward points

There are no clear indication on how to use reward points. We can help users with an information icon to give more details on rewards.

3

Time consuming

Earning points appears as a hassle and not worth it. We want the users to also view other perks and advantages they can receive from the app.

4

Accessibility features

Some apps have small text which can be difficult to users. We would ensure our app uses legible text with a high contrast in colors.

Takeaways

While designing this app, I learned to just keep creating and there are no bad ideas. There will always be opportunities to improve. User research and usability studies also helped a lot in identifying pain points useful for designing forward.
